8. Long run – this means in the distant future.  Wish = Long,  The first part of two is referring to two down, which is “run-up”

9. Kalif – an islamic title,  Kelvin = K, Forte = F.  Muhammed = Ali

10. Repel – mean push back.  Is also leper going backwards (back is used twice here)

11. Lissome – means thin.  Lizzy’s first two = Li.  Confuse Moses = ssome (i.e. anagram)

23. Eyehole – part of a balaclava.  Sounds like I = “eye”.  Sounds like entire = “hole” (i.e. sounds like whole.  The ‘sounds like’ covers both words).

24. Awful – Means horrid.   Just = Lawful.  Left out means take the ‘L’ off, leaving awful.

25. Prelate – This is a clergyman who preside over a see (a “see” is a jurisdiction of a bishop)  So a prelate “has see”.  Anagram of “a petrel”.

5. Sakis – These are monkeys and also the nickname of Hector Hugh Munro.
