12. Diktat – Means order. Di = princess.  King = k.  Make “24” = Make doily (24 across) = tat

26 Execrate – Means hate.  former girlfriend = ex, anagram of create

27 Ides – Ides are fish and also the middle of the month.  is = is. from Spanish = de

4. Untidy – Means sloppy.  Anagram of whodunit with who removed.  unknown ending = y one the end

6. Instant – Means fast.  walker = Stan (Stan Walker).  This is in “in t” t = time

7. Goes – Means attendee.  anagram of ego.  King = r

8. Hatred – Means spleen.  Deerstalker = hat. returns deer = reed her heart = e is removed

13. Know-alls –  Means wise guys.  At this moment = now. everyone = all  Kropotkin and Shuker. Foremost  = K S

15. Edifice – Means building. early childhood education = ece if I’d go back = difi

17. Umpire – Means ref. movie magazine = empire.   Uniform = U instead of  “Last Dance” = e

18. Truant – Means Wag.  “tail.  Get” = t.  Anagram of a turn

20. Buyer – Means a customer.  Anagram of February with Far removed

22. Paved – Means flagged.  little dessert = pav, second helping = e, Penny = d

23. Edge – means bite.  Jam = wedge. without means take w out

    Nice crossword but hard.
    1. Hadn’t heard of a sun bear so didn’t get this clue. Also hadn’t heard of ‘ears’ other than in full, ie ‘I’m all ears’

    9 never heard of tad meaning child, also Raised as reversal doesn’t really work in an across clue imho
    10 good clue, loved snakes as anagrind
    11 good clue
    12 tat for doily? Bit of a stretch, needed ‘for example’
    14 clever disguise of ‘in’
    16,19 ugh, ‘sung’ again. It’s ‘sang’. Clue worked but a bit contrived, surface rather ungainly
    21 didn’t know you could spell pawpaw as papaw. Note typos in blog.

    2 d ok except the capitalised Topp Twins have two Ps so perhaps they should have had lower case here

    Thanks for your comments Barrie.

    In 1 across “we hear” = ears because that’s what ears do. I was trying to be clever by using something that commonly occurs in crosswords to mean something different. i.e. it’s usually a homophone indicator.

    12ac tat = “make doily”, not just “doily”. Tatting is the process of making knotted lace, including doilies.

    Fair enough on your other comments. I’ll see if it will let me fix the typos.

      Ah, I get Ears now. Very clever. Don’t think I would ever have got this one, beaten not only by the non-homophone but also never having heard of a sun bear and as there was also no example-indicator I was completely off the scent.

      And I get Tat as a verb now. Didn’t realise it could be one.

      For a mathematician you do have an elliptical mind! Ilook forward to next Sunday.

    You really make it seem really easy along with your presentation but I in finding this matter to be really something which I believe I might never understand. It kind of feels too complicated and very vast for me. I’m looking forward to your next publish, I will try to get the grasp of it!
